Ciprofloxacin 500 mg Tablets

Ciprofloxacin 500 mg Tablets

Category: ANTI BIOTICS

Product Description

Ciprofloxacin 500 mg Tablets contain ciprofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat selected bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, resulting in the death of susceptible bacteria.

Ciprofloxacin is a prescription-only medicine and should be used according to a healthcare professional’s instructions.

Indications

For the treatment of infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including:

  • Urinary tract infections, including complicated infections and pyelonephritis.
  • Chronic bacterial prostatitis.
  • Selected bacterial gastrointestinal infections, including typhoid fever.
  • Skin and soft tissue infections.
  • Bone and joint infections.
  • Selected lower respiratory tract infections.

Treatment should consider bacterial susceptibility and local antibiotic guidelines. For uncomplicated urinary tract infections, acute sinusitis and acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, ciprofloxacin should be reserved for patients without suitable alternative treatment options. It does not treat viral infections.

Contraindications

Ciprofloxacin must not be used in patients with:

  • Known hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin, other quinolone antibiotics or any component of the formulation.
  • Concurrent use of tizanidine.

Important precautions: Avoid use in patients with myasthenia gravis or a history of serious fluoroquinolone-related adverse reactions. Ciprofloxacin may cause serious tendon injury, peripheral nerve damage and central nervous system effects. Stop treatment and seek medical advice promptly if symptoms develop. Use during pregnancy, breastfeeding or childhood requires specific medical assessment.
