Generic Name:
Category: ANTI BIOTICS
Product Description
Suphexione® contains Ceftriaxone 1 g, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with broad-spectrum bactericidal activity against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens. It acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, resulting in rapid bacterial cell death.
Suphexione® is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms. Its prolonged half-life allows for convenient once-daily dosing in many clinical situations, making it a preferred option for both inpatient and outpatient antimicrobial therapy.
Indications
Suphexione® is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible microorganisms, including:
- Lower respiratory tract infections, including pneumonia
- Acute bacterial otitis media
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Urinary tract infections (complicated and uncomplicated)
- Intra-abdominal infections (in combination with appropriate anaerobic coverage where indicated)
- Bone and joint infections
- Septicaemia (bacteraemia)
- Bacterial meningitis
- Gonorrhoea (including penicillinase-producing strains)
- Pelvic inflammatory disease (with appropriate additional antimicrobial coverage where indicated)
- Surgical prophylaxis to reduce the incidence of postoperative infections
- Infections in immunocompromised patients caused by susceptible organisms
Contraindications
Suphexione® is contraindicated in patients with:
- Known hypersensitivity to ceftriaxone, other cephalosporins, or any component of the formulation.
- A history of severe immediate hypersensitivity reactions (e.g., anaphylaxis) to penicillins, carbapenems, monobactams, or other β-lactam antibiotics.
- Premature neonates up to a corrected age of 41 weeks (gestational age plus chronological age).
- Full-term neonates (≤28 days old) with hyperbilirubinaemia, jaundice, hypoalbuminaemia, or acidosis due to the risk of bilirubin displacement.
- Neonates (≤28 days old) requiring or expected to require intravenous calcium-containing solutions because of the risk of ceftriaxone-calcium precipitation.
- Patients with known hypersensitivity to lidocaine when ceftriaxone is reconstituted with lidocaine for intramuscular administration.
Dosage and Administration
Suphexione® may be administered by intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) injection. Dosage should be determined according to the type and severity of infection, pathogen susceptibility, patient age, body weight, and renal/hepatic function.
Adults and Children ≥12 Years (or ≥50 kg)
- 1–2 g once daily
- In severe infections: up to 4 g daily, administered as a single dose or in two divided doses.
Children (15 days–12 years, <50 kg)
- 20–80 mg/kg once daily
- Severe infections or meningitis: up to 100 mg/kg/day (maximum 4 g/day).

Duration of Therapy
Treatment should be continued for 48–72 hours after clinical improvement or eradication of the infecting organism has been confirmed. The duration depends on the nature and severity of the infection.
