Cyclodox® (Doxycycline 100 mg Capsules)

Generic Name:

Category: ANTI BOITICS

Product Description

Cyclodox® contains Doxycycline 100 mg, a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic with bacteriostatic activity against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as atypical organisms including Chlamydia, Mycoplasma, Rickettsia, and certain protozoa. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, thereby preventing bacterial growth and replication.

Cyclodox® is indicated for the treatment of a variety of susceptible bacterial infections and for the prevention of selected infections such as malaria in high-risk areas. It should be used only for infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible microorganisms.

Indications

Cyclodox® is indicated for the treatment of susceptible infections, including:

  • Respiratory tract infections, including community-acquired pneumonia, acute bronchitis, and sinusitis
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Acne vulgaris requiring systemic antibiotic therapy
  • Sexually transmitted infections, including uncomplicated Chlamydia trachomatis infections and non-gonococcal urethritis
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease (in combination with other appropriate antibiotics)
  • Ophthalmic infections, including trachoma
  • Rickettsial infections (e.g., Rocky Mountain spotted fever, typhus, and Q fever)
  • Cholera
  • Leptospirosis
  • Brucellosis (in combination with streptomycin)
  • Lyme disease
  • Malaria prophylaxis and treatment of chloroquine-resistant Plasmodium falciparum (in combination with appropriate antimalarial agents)
  • Other infections caused by doxycycline-susceptible organisms

Contraindications

Cyclodox® is contraindicated in patients with:

  • Known hypersensitivity to doxycycline, other tetracyclines, or any component of the formulation.
  • Pregnancy (particularly during the second and third trimesters), unless the potential benefit outweighs the risk.
  • Breastfeeding, unless considered essential by the physician.
  • Children below 8 years of age, except when the expected benefits outweigh the risks (e.g., certain rickettsial infections), due to the potential for permanent tooth discoloration and effects on bone growth.
  • Severe hypersensitivity reactions to tetracycline-class antibiotics.

Dosage and Administration

Cyclodox® capsules should be taken with a full glass of water while sitting or standing to reduce the risk of oesophageal irritation. It may be taken with food if gastrointestinal upset occurs.

Adults

  • Day 1: 200 mg daily (either as a single dose or 100 mg every 12 hours).
  • Maintenance: 100 mg once daily.
  • Severe infections: 100 mg twice daily throughout treatment.

Acne Vulgaris

  • 100 mg once daily for 6–12 weeks, or as clinically indicated.

Chlamydial Infections

  • 100 mg twice daily for 7 days.

Non-Gonococcal Urethritis
