Supermentin® 625 mg Tablets, 1 g Tablets & 228 mg/5 mL Oral Suspension (Amoxicillin + Clavulanic Acid)

Supermentin

Category: ANTI BIOTICS

Product Description

Supermentin® is a broad-spectrum antibiotic combining Amoxicillin, a penicillin-class antibacterial agent, with Clavulanic Acid, a β-lactamase inhibitor. This combination extends the antibacterial spectrum of amoxicillin by protecting it against degradation by β-lactamase-producing bacteria, making it effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens.

Available in 625 mg tablets (500 mg/125 mg), 1 g tablets (875 mg/125 mg), and 228 mg/5 mL oral suspension (200 mg/28.5 mg), Supermentin® is indicated for the treatment of susceptible bacterial infections in adults and children.

Indications

Supermentin® is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible microorganisms, including:

  • Acute bacterial sinusitis
  • Acute otitis media
  • Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
  • Community-acquired pneumonia
  • Upper and lower respiratory tract infections
  • Urinary tract infections, including cystitis and pyelonephritis
  • Skin and soft tissue infections, including cellulitis, infected wounds, and animal bites
  • Severe dental infections, including dental abscess with spreading cellulitis
  • Bone and joint infections, including osteomyelitis

Contraindications

Supermentin® is contraindicated in patients with:

  • Known hypersensitivity to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, penicillins, or any component of the formulation.
  • A history of severe immediate hypersensitivity reactions (e.g., anaphylaxis) to other β-lactam antibiotics, including cephalosporins, carbapenems, or monobactams.
  • Previous cholestatic jaundice or hepatic dysfunction associated with amoxicillin/clavulanic acid therapy.
  • Infectious mononucleosis, where administration of amoxicillin is associated with a higher incidence of skin rash.

Dosage and Administration

Supermentin® should be administered at the start of a meal to improve absorption and minimise gastrointestinal side effects. Dosage should be based on the severity of infection, patient age, body weight, and renal function.
